Lundin Mining Corporation

Performance Highlights and Objectives

Lundin Mining seeks to achieve a safe, productive and healthy work environment through responsible business management carried out in a manner designed to protect employees, adjacent communities and the natural environment. Better practices are incorporated in pursuit of these goals.

2010 Objectives 2010 Achievements
HSEC Management System All sites plan to achieve compliance with the HSEC Management System

Adoption of an Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) system across all operations
Objective achieved.

ERM process was agreed upon and software purchased to maintain the system. Consultants have been retained to assist with implementation.

Occupational Health and Safety No fatalities and Total Recordable Incidents Frequency (TRIF) of 1.6 Objective of no fatalities was achieved.

Objective of attaining a TRIF of 1.6 was not met. (Actual TRIF for 2010 was 3.55.)

Water Use / Recycling Seek additional opportunities to minimize use of fresh water

Maintain effluent discharge within permit limits

Neves-Corvo to become zero discharge facility
Extreme rainfall events in Southern Europe in the winter months meant that managing water balance at the Sites was a major challenge. Consequently, the objective was not achieved.

Zinkgruvan and Aguablanca achieved this objective. Neves-Corvo maintained a high level of compliance but did occasionally exceed permit conditions related to the levels of sulphates and nitrogen (nitrate, nitrite and ammonia) in the Oeiras River. (The mine does not discharge during periods of low river flow and is adding an additional pond to be able to better manage this issue). Galmoy exceeded permitted limits for ammonia on one occasion due to extremely high rainfall that required discharge of water. (This problem has been addressed by further advances in closing the tailings facilities),

Changes in the mine plan and two consecutive winters of very high rainfall have resulted in a review of the feasibility of this objective.

Biodiversity Conservation All operating sites will have in place a biodiversity management plan Plans are in place at Neves-Corvo, Aguablanca and Galmoy. Zinkgruvan has conducted baseline studies to form the basis of a plan to be implemented in 2011.
Environmental Spills and Releases No reportable spills and releases There was one reportable release at Galmoy. (This was related to the need to release water as a consequence of high rainfall and has been addressed by covering the tailings facility.)
Greenhouse Gas Emissions Development of a company-wide Greenhouse Gas / Energy Reduction strategy Sites have energy/GHG reduction plans and Corporate Guidelines have been produced on accounting for energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions to ensure consistent approaches are employed.
Closure and Reclamation Continued reclamation activities at Galmoy and complete reclamation at Storliden Reclamation is progressing well at Galmoy in accordance with the mine closure plan.

At Storliden there is minor site clean-up and replanting required that will be completed in 2011.

2011 Objectives

HSEC Management System Add additional procedures to support the Group HSEC Standards based on identified HSEC Risks. Procedures will address high consequence safety activities and the use of mobile equipment.

Implement Crisis Management and Communications Plan across the Company.
Occupational Health and Safety No fatalities and Total Recordable Incident Frequency (TRIF) of 1.6.
Water Use/ Recycling Conduct a review of Site water management plans and Tailings Management facilities against "worst case" predictions for changes in local climate.
Biodiversity Conservation Complete implementation of biodiversity management plan at Zinkgruvan and continue biodiversity activities at other sites.
Environmental Spills and Releases No reportable spills and releases.
Greenhouse Gas Emissions Seek additional opportunities for energy use/GHG reduction at Sites.
Closure and Reclamation Continue reclamation activities at Galmoy and complete reclamation at Storliden and Las Vueltas del Rio gold mine, Honduras.
Community Implement Community communications plan at each Site.
