Location

Chapada is a large-scale open-pit copper-gold mine in Brazil, producing high-quality copper concentrate with significant gold by-product credits.

Located in northern Goiás State, approximately 320 km north of Goiânia and 270 km northwest of Brasília, Chapada is wholly owned and operated by Lundin Mining’s Brazilian subsidiary, Mineração Maracá Indústria e Comércio S/A, following its acquisition from Yamana Gold Inc. in July 2019. The mine benefits from strong infrastructure, including road access and grid-connected power via a dedicated transmission line.

Chapada is a conventional truck-and-shovel operation with a low strip ratio and an in-pit crusher. Mining is currently focused on three adjacent open pits that will eventually merge into a single large pit. The processing facility treats ore at a current capacity of approximately 65,000 tonnes per day, producing a gold-rich copper concentrate through conventional crushing, grinding, and flotation. Concentrate is trucked to the port of Açu for export to international smelters.

In the last four years of operation (2020-2024) Chapada exclusively used water mine drainage, rainfall and recycled process water. Chapada has also developed a comprehensive water management plan to mitigate excess water and ensure sustainable operations. 100% of Chapada’s electrical supply is from clean energy sources.
