Building a More Inclusive Workforce

For many women in Chile's Atacama Region, a career in mining can be difficult to pursue when traditional work schedules do not align with family responsibilities. To help address this challenge, Lundin Mining created a workforce development initiative that combines operator training with a more flexible approach to work, creating new opportunities for women to enter the industry.

‘Programa Relevos’ is delivered through our Candelaria and Caserones operations and provides women from Tierra Amarilla and surrounding communities with the training, experience and support needed to begin careers as haul truck operators. Participants receive classroom instruction, mentorship and hands-on experience, helping them build the skills and confidence needed to work safely in a mining environment. The program's unique work model allows operators to cover meal breaks and training periods on regular shifts, providing a defined weekday schedule that can better support work-life balance. By reducing barriers to entry and creating more flexible career pathways, Programa Relevos is helping broaden access to employment opportunities in mining.

Through initiatives like Programa Relevos, we are building a more diverse workforce, investing in local talent and helping more women access careers in mining. The program reflects our belief that stronger communities and a thriving regional workforce go hand in hand with both Atacama's long-term growth and Lundin Mining's future success.
