Growing More with Less Water
Juntos Crecemos Community Grants Program
For more than 50 years, a local farmer near our Candelaria operation has built a livelihood around growing vegetables and grapes. In recent years, he has also diversified his business through goat milk production. Like many producers in the Atacama Region, limited water availability and seasonal growing conditions have made it challenging to expand production and reach new markets.
Through a grant from our Juntos Crecemos community grants program, he was able to install a prefabricated greenhouse equipped with a drip irrigation system. The project was selected for its focus on sustainable, year-round agricultural production, allowing crops to be protected from seasonal weather conditions while making efficient use of scarce water resources.
The greenhouse now supports year-round tomato production and has helped increase the farm's productivity and stability. Expanded production has also enabled the business to broaden its customer base, including supplying fresh tomatoes to our Candelaria operation. The project demonstrates how practical, locally driven solutions can strengthen livelihoods while supporting long-term agricultural sustainability in the region.
About Juntos Crecemos
In 2026, Lundin Mining launched Juntos Crecemos ("Growing Together"), bringing together successful long-standing community grant programs operated by our Candelaria and Caserones operations. The program provides funding that helps residents, entrepreneurs and community organizations pursue opportunities to strengthen their businesses and create lasting benefits for their communities. Projects supported through the program span entrepreneurship, community development, sport, education, culture and the environment.
