Monitoring Biodiversity at Chapada

We understand that responsible mining requires careful attention to biodiversity. At our Chapada operation in Brazil, we maintain ongoing fauna and flora monitoring programs in areas influenced by our activities. Using recognized scientific methods and specialized teams, these programs uphold the highest standards of technical precision and environmental care.

Our approach includes taking surveys of native vegetation and natural regeneration, keeping inventories of terrestrial and aquatic fauna, and continuous tracking of ecological indicators. This data allows us to detect changes in biological communities, understand regional ecological dynamics, and guide our actions to meet our commitments.

We also monitor endemic, threatened, and environmentally sensitive species to ensure compliance with licensing requirements and alignment with established international industry practices. Among our initiatives is the creation of a seed bank through the collection of seeds from native species. This resource supports the recovery of degraded areas, strengthens ecosystem resilience, and promotes sustainable landscapes over time.

Through these efforts, Chapada demonstrates Lundin Mining’s commitment to protecting ecosystems and preserving biodiversity as part of a responsible approach to development.
